Jason Wolfe sits down with Aaron Watson to discuss growing up in the Milton Hershey School, building the first coupon site and why you don’t marry your business but instead commit to your people.
We just returned from another amazing You Gift. We Gift. tour. The tour is part of the overall You Gift. We Gift. programs, which provides needy children unexpected gifts around the holidays. This year marks our second outing as we made the journey from Pittsburgh to Tampa in just four days. Stops on the way include Charlotte, Augusta, Greenville and Gainesville. In each city, we had the chance to visit local family shelters, food banks and nominated children.
I encourage you to check out the recap on the GiftCards.com blog. My son Morris provided most of the updates along with some great photos. Also below is a link to a great feature from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible and to the amazing people we met along the way!
Deep within the recesses of the DoubleTree Hotel in Pittsburgh, Jason Wolfe is mentally preparing himself to deliver a speech at his company’s quarterly meeting. He’s stationed in the back of the hotel’s ballroom, seated, swiping through slides, reviewing his talking points. He looks up, takes a breath, and begins to make his way toward the front. Wolfe, the 45-year-old chief executive of GiftCards.com, is hardly shy. But there’s always something a little unnatural about speaking to—and answering questions from—a hundred or so employees gathered in a single room.
The Pittsburgh Technology Council announced the winners of the 18th annual Tech 50 awards this past Tuesday. I'm proud to say that GiftCards.com was a nominee in not one, but two catigories: Advanced Manufacturing Company of the Year & CEO of the Year. While we didn't walk away with a win I'm very proud that we were nominated to stand with such great business partners in the Pittsburgh Tech community. Congrats to all winners and hopefully see you there next year!
GiftCards.com was recently recognized as one of Pittsburgh's 'Smart 50' companies within the region. The Smart 50 Awards recognize the top executives of the 50 smartest companies in the region for their ability to effectively build and lead successful organizations. All 50 winners were honored at a black-tie celebration in this past week. In addition to included within the ranks of the Smart 50, GiftCards.com received a specialty award for our achievements in innovation. This award means a lot to me as we strive to produce a great product for our customers and employees. We have a lot of big things planned for the remainder of 2014 and even bigger things to come in 2015! Thank you to all our customers and employees who help us keep innovating and make 'em smile : )

I was excited to learn that GiftCards.com is a finalist for the Pittsburgh Tech 50 2014 Advanced Manufacturing Company of the Year award as well as the CEO of the Year award. Annually, the Pittsburgh Technology Council presents awards to southwestern Pennsylvania’s top tech companies with recognition in certain technology categories. GiftCards.com is one of three companies that are manufacturing this product and the only company that is manufacturing customized prepaid cards that are paired with customized greeting cards. The gift card and greeting card personalization makes our product a very unique gift that makes people smile!
Our products are one hundred percent customization and can be produced one-off. Since we are able to produce just one personalized card at a time, we speak directly to our gift-giving customers. Each piece can be customized to our customers’ wishes. Plus, our speed of manufacturing and package delivery is unmatched in the industry. A customer can order a custom prepaid card with a greeting card and have it in-hand within two business days.
In addition to 2014 Advanced Manufacturing Company of the Year, I was humbled to be included as a finalist for CEO of the Year. Best of luck to all the Pittsburgh Tech 50 finalists!
Have you ever seen one of those gift card displays in your local chain drugstore or grocery? Notice who they’re for? Other national brands! It’s one of many examples that show how the “cards” have been stacked, both online and offline, against true local merchants in favor of national retailers.
Local businesses have spent years trying to even the odds through various digital promotions like Groupon and LivingSocial. But those services over-extended themselves, forcing cutbacks on their local outreach efforts. Consumers, meanwhile, grew wary of being forced to make purchasing decisions over short time periods...
This week, I was excited to learn that I was selected as a finalists for for Entrepreneur Magazine’s Entrepreneur of 2014 award. Each year, five different entrepreneurs, who have created their own original start-ups, become finalists in the contest. Once finalists are announced, everyone has the chance to vote online for the future winner of the prestigious award.
I am humbled by the nomination and want to thank all the people around me. I couldn't do it without all of the great employees and friends at GifCards.com. As I reiterated with the team, this is not a badge for me to wear, but rather a badge for our company and the blessing we have been given. Anyway, win or not, it is great that WE made it here.
If you have a moment I'd love your support by submitting a vote by visiting Entrepreneur Magazine’s voting page before September 19, 2014. Thank you!
